 WORK IN PROGRESS

  • “The Barkman Avenue Peace Accords” — a themed, MennoGrit short story collection is being queried. A second collection iteration, “Pinching Zwieback” has also been created for queries and contests. The latter collection comprises a wider range of stories, but is also focused on Mennonite experiences in the wille hundat (the great unknown).
  • “Mulholland and Hardbar” — a novel (“Fargo, with a Mennonite accent”) This 85K-word WIP is out to Beta readers. Not yet querying.
  • “People, Places, Light” — an ekphrastic Manitoba artbook including original photography and short stories (Funded in part by The Manitoba Arts Council | Le conseil des arts du Manitoba.) Just getting back underway after Covid-19 restrictions.
  • About 12 short stories are on the go, being submitted to literary journals, contests, and anthologies.
  • “Tafelburg” — a science fiction novella is written, first draft only.
  • “The Mismaloya”— a proposed novelette screenplay adaptation. Awaiting a collaborator.

1.15.21 Mitchell Toews participated as an Artist Testifier for the Commission on Basic Income. This Ontario/Canadian (Ontario Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts) jointly sponsored commission requested Mitch to “share your experience and thoughts with our commissioners and to inform their future report on the issue of Basic Income for Artists.”
